Hello everyone!
As many of you know, David Gage Henson (6) has had a significant amount of health problems over the past year. David was diagnosed with EoE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis) on 08/02/2024. This basically means that David easily chokes on food that normal children his age can eat. This also means that David has an incredibly weak immune system. David has been hospitalized multiple times in 2024 for getting multiple rounds of Pneumonia.
David was originally diagnosed with an ARSA (Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery) on his birthday (02/19/2024). An ARSA is a congenital heart birth defect that causes a ventricle to wrap around his esophagus. Despite being a birth defect, there is no way to prevent it, and I was able to do everything right during my pregnancy in hopes of preventing any issues. At the time we were told not to worry about it. Over the year, and many surgeries and hospital stay later, David's health has only continued to get significantly worse. We had an CT Angiogram, Swallow Study, 2 Endoscopes, Flexable sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, multiple X-rays, 2nd Adenoidectomy, and a Tonsillectomy just this year alone.
Super long story later, David has been told as of 09/30/2024 that he must have an Open-Heart Bypass Reconstruction Surgery otherwise David is not expected to live to see his 12th Birthday. We will be having surgery on 12/02/2024 at 730am in Lexington, KY at University of Kentucky Hospital by one of the select few Cardiothoracic Surgeons who know how to perform an ARSA surgery. ARSA complications happen to less that 0.05 % of the population. David has an extremely high chance of mortality due to this procedure.
Due to David's constant health, I(Melinda) have been unable to work with David consistently being ill. I just received my Associates of Arts Degree in Accounting while working on getting my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting. So, I have been a full-time college student while David has been so ill. Justin Henson (My husband and adopted legal father of David as of 03/21/2024) is a full-time employee at I Supply Company in Fairborn for 4 years now. He has FMLA leave in for David's surgery which sadly will be unpaid. I have taken one semester off of my schooling so I can give all of my attention to David during his recovery.
David is expected to be checked in at the hospital for Pre-Op Thursday November 28th, 2024 (Thanksgiving evening) and will remain for a couple of weeks pending how he recovers after the surgery. The hospital is located almost 4 hours away from us and due to our car needing necessary work, we will have to get a rental car for a couple of weeks just to make the trip. We will also have to possibly stay in a hotel during the first couple of days followed by staying at the Ronald Mcdonald House. We will need to pay for our regular bills on top of any food or necessities we me or Justin may have while in KY. Thats is not to mention if David was to pass away which hopefully we do not have to deal with that at all.
We are asking for any and all prayers we can receive for David. There is no such thing as too much prayer. We are also asking for any help either financially to help pay for bills while Justin is out of work for David's surgery and any basic needs and rental car/hotel stay expenses, or if anyone would like to buy any of the needs posted on the amazon Wishlist which is posted on my Facebook. We will also include a link to the amazon wish list below.
David does have a Make a Wish currently pending Dr. Backer's approval which will hopefully grant David whatever he dreams up.
We plan to try to celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving early since David will not be able to lift his arms for weeks after the procedure. This is such a HUGE deal and has us all extremely scared. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. We will only use the money for needs and any expenses for David. Thank you so very much!
